We are thrilled to announce that our Sketch Challenge is BACK! Thanks so much to Valerie Huang for designing the sketch for us this month! We are trying something new this time around. Each month a subscriber will join us by creating a layout for the sketch…alongside a design team member.

This month we are sharing layouts by Traci Reed and Jill Keller and we couldn’t be more excited. Make sure to check the end of the post for contest rules and instructions!

Traci says: As soon as I saw the sketch, I just new it was the perfect one to showcase one of my most favorite pictures of my oldest son, ever.  I love that the April Gossamer Blue kits are so boy-friendly too!  I stuck to the sketch pretty closely, just adding an extra paper mat under my photo.  I’m a heavy cluster-er so I added a bit more embellishment than the sketch called for as well!

Jill says: I really liked the sketch from Valerie and felt that, for my style, using the sketch “as is” was going to work perfectly!

I used the Double Dutch paper from Dear Lizzy as my background, then built layers using several other patterned papers to mat my photos. I opted to use (4) 3×4 photos on my layout, which is one of my only changes from the sketch. I thought the scallop strip in the sketch was adorable, so I kept that idea by fussy-cutting some of the scallop paper, cutting it into three strips and adhering the top strip with foam adhesive to give it some dimension. The camera flair was perfect for this spot, along with a heart sticker and button.

Those paper clips from the Life Pages kit accented both the Never Grow Up sticker and the patterned papers, and gave me a starting point for another embellishment cluster of Dear Lizzy wood buttons. Adding embellishments here let me personalize the sketch just a little more.

I’m a sucker for a little something-something at the top edge of my layout, so I really wanted to stay true to the sketch with this; I don’t sew on pages much, so I used the ribbon from the Life Pages kit to tie a bow and then added another wood button. The 2 button worked great, as these pictures were from my daughter’s two-year photos.
