We are thrilled to announce our guest designer this month is Anita Stokes.
Anita was the winner of our guest designer contest with Glitz Design. She is incredibly talented and we are thrilled she is spending the month with us. She has a very soft artistic style that incorporates mixed media techniques.
We hope you enjoy learning more about Anita by reading her answers to our questions.
1. What is your favorite storage method?
I have so many different storage methods. My favourite is probably my ‘mixed media box’. This is a box where I keep all my mixed media paints, watercolours, inks, stamps in one spot for easy access. Other than that I love my ‘hanging clip up’ where I can clip up new products and not forget I have them!
2. How did you get started scrapbooking?
I have always been into crafts and when I stopped working full time before I had my first baby I needed ‘something’. That ‘something’ turned out to be scrapbooking. I started small and had no idea where to start when I first walked into the store but it didn’t take too long to get involved in the online challenges to get me started. I remember quite clearly asking what “Kraft” cardstock was, now it’s one of my go-to’s.
3. Do you follow trends?
Yes I do. I don’t get into all of them but I would say I do scrap towards trends.
If so, what it your favorite right now and how do you incorporate it into your work?
I love to incorporate sequins on my layouts. They are so cheap and add that bit of bling to your page. At the moment I seem to cluster sequins for a bold effect and am in love with it! The other trend I follow would be watercolour. They are so versatile and you can achieve an awesome background effect with just one colour!
4. What is your must have supply and why?
Patterned papers! The possibilities are endless with them. You can cut out different elements from your papers for embellishments, or layer patterned papers for texture and definition.
5. How did you get on your first design team?
It was my local scrap store and to start with I would enter the monthly challenges. When the design team call came up, I applied and was lucky enough to get on the team.
6. Any advice for those wanting to design on a team?
My best work always comes from my heart and when you create from your heart your layout will shine. So create for you and keep to your style. Look out for places which will ‘fit’ you well and where you ‘love’ to be. You might not make it the first time but keep trying and put yourself out there.
Thank you for joining us this month Anita! We are in love with your style and think your work with the October kits is outstanding!
