I’m a little obsessed with creating little touches of Spring cheer in our home this season. Last month it was all about pinwheels, this month, I’m hooked on paper lanterns. The patterned papers in the May kits are all so beautiful and perfect color scheme for our home. So, I took the time to spend some much needed quality time in my studio to create something fun and colorful.
Supplies: May 2014 Main Kit, May Main Add-On Kit, May Add-On Kit #2
These paper lanterns are super easy to make. All you need is a mix of patterned papers, scissors, string, pencil, glue, ruler and a trimmer.
Use a ruler to draw a horizontal lines, 3/8” marking the border along open edge and vertical lines every 3/8” down.
To cut, use an x-acto knife, a pair of scissors or a paper trimmer to trim vertical lines, not crossing over the marked horizontal borderline edge.
Fold an 8” piece of string in half and tie a small loop at folded end. Staple or glue ends of string opposite each other on top outer edge of lantern.
Adhere two ½”x8” strips of pattern paper to top and bottom edges of lantern securely (use binder clips to hold ends in place until secure).
I find an assembly line works best when making a lot of the same items at one time and managed to make 16 lanterns total.
There are so many different ways you could display these pretties in your home – on a mantel with LCD candlelight hidden inside, from a small tree branch or clustered dangling from high from the ceiling. Even perfect for a birthday, holiday or wedding theme party, too. They are guaranteed to grab the attention of your family and guests. The possibilities are endless!
Happy Creating, xo!
