For this month’s Pattern Play, I decided to embrace the lovely exclusive paper created by Peppermint Granberg. It has a great mix of patterns and I was immediately drawn to it. When I look at it, I see faux stitching, which I used as a pattern to sew over. I also chose to mix in some of the bold patterns that so perfectly matched my daughter’s outfit.
I just love how my daughter’s shirt has the same pattern as the papers. These photos were taken earlier this year and I was so excited that I hadn’t scrapped it yet!
I started by choosing the heart pattern that is repeated multiple times on the paper. I actually tested stitching different colors in spots of the paper that I knew would be covered up. I chose to use the same color thread as Peppermint used so that the stitching would blend in.
You can see the tone on tone stitches here if you look closely.
Another key element of the pattern play on this layout was the bold design of this paper. I absolutely LOVED it, and not just because it matched the photo so well. 😉 It was just a great way to spice up the page. I stitched the large clear aqua alphas over the pattern and added the word phrases as part of a longer title.
And finally, I added the photo and journaling, creating layers upon layers using paper, Life Pages cards, and multiple embellishments.
So whattaya think of how I mixed these patterns? Was I crazy to have stitched so many hearts? Either way, I love the end result!
