Gossamer Blue

Hi Everyone!  Emily here!  Happy Friday, and welcome to the another edition of “Pinspired with Gossamer Blue!”  The second Friday of every month I will share a layout inspired by something I discovered on Pinterest!

This month I knew I wanted to use a graphic design piece as my inspiration. It’s been a long time since I’ve had used anything from my Artsy board, which is one of my favorites! I scrolled through until I came to this fun image that plays with text, which comes from the book “Popular Lie About Graphic Design” by Craig Ward.

I love this look of a pile of unorganized letters that actually say something if you look closely. I have to be honest, I’m not always the biggest fan of alphabets that are not all the same color (in this case the chipboard thickers from the Main Scrapbooking kit). I don’t know what it is – I just prefer my titles to be all the same color!

However, in a situation like this, where the letters are supposed to be a little crazy, the mixed colors would be perfect! I need a long-ish title, so I decided upon “We Love Bloom Bake Shop.” If you follow my Instagram account, you will know that I am mildly obsessed with a local bakery near me. I take a LOT of photos of their beautiful baked goods, and I knew the pastels in one of my cupcake photos would match the colors of the title.

I followed the design of the inspiration piece and staggered the letters of my title along the bottom of my page, creating a pile of letters. I then included some random letters that I flip flopped around.  Finally, I outlined the letters that make up my title to draw a little more attention to them. I have no idea if anyone would even notice what it says or not, but that’s okay, because I know! I also included a few little wood veneer flowers, which mimic the look of the faux wood on the chipboard alphabet.

The bottom of this layout is so graphic. I wanted to contrast that with a softer top half. I chose a few different patterned papers that matched the color scheme of the chipboard – yellow, pink, and gray, and blue. I included the white doily behind my photo to make it a tad more feminine. At the last minute, I added the large “favorite” wooden circle, because not only is the bakery truly my favorite, it was more wood to tie into the wood at the bottom.

At the top of the photo, I added a journaling tag with the exact same words as my title and another little wood veneer flower. I included a little black mist, a few dark blue sequins, and some extra rub-ons and stamping. Finally, I outlined it all in black, because I love how it makes the paper and photos stand out against the white background.

The final layout is kind of odd, but I like it. Like I mentioned, the top and the bottom are very different from one another, but I tried to include elements like the color scheme and the wood veneer that would tie it all together. It’s a fun layout!
