Hi Everyone! Emily here! Happy Friday, and welcome to the another edition of “Pinspired with Gossamer Blue!” The second Friday of every month I will share a layout inspired by something I discovered on Pinterest!
This month, I knew I wanted to create a layout featuring a list of all the books I read in 2015. I started reading regularly again in 2014 after a rather long hiatus. In 2014 I read seven books, and I challenged myself to double that number in 2015. I ended up reading 19 books this year, and I wanted to document them in a fun and colorful way. I was perusing Pinterest looking for something (anything!) that I could use as inspiration for a non-person layout. I hadn’t decided if I would use a photo on the layout or not. I read most of my books on my Kindle, so I didn’t even have a good book photo to use! When I stumbled upon this image of layers upon layers of receipts (a close up of a larger art instillation piece) I was so excited. It was perfect!
I love all the fun colors and prints on the Goldie journaling cards that come in this month’s Bits and Pieces Kit. I pulled out all the ones that included black and white, pink, and blue. There are a few really fun yellow cards, too, but I opted not to use them on this layout.
I typed the title, author and date of each book I read in 2015 on the various cards. I ended up saving most of the black and white cards, because the print wasn’t readable on top of the design. I then cut down each cards and arranged them on my layout going from bottom up, which is the opposite of the instillation piece where the artist is hanging receipts vertically.
I tucked each card behind the one in front of it so that there is no white space. I tried to make it as random as possible. I didn’t want there to be order. In fact, I just randomly placed the cards on the page and didn’t pay attention at all to the date the books were read. It would have been way too difficult to try and arrange them in a perfect timeline!
I wanted to add some more black and white cards and a few other small elements to my layout, so I added a few extras throughout the layout, always making sure there was a little overlap. I also had to include some stamping with my new all-time favorite roller stamp that comes in the Bits and Pieces Kit! I included some phrase and shape stickers as well.
Finally, I needed to create a title for the layout. The obvious choice would have been something like “2015 Books,” however I had no number stickers to use! I love the fun little Crate Paper “yay” enamel sticker that comes in the Main Scrapbooking Kit, so I decided to make my title Books, Yay!
I didn’t really feel like any journaling was necessary, nor did I even try to stick a photo on the page. Sometimes a photo is not necessary, in fact, I think a photo would look rather out of place on this layout!
Here’s the final product:
I would love to see your take on this inspiration piece or any layout that features books! To play along, post your projects in the Pinspired gallery or on Instagram with the #gossamerblue hashtag! I can’t wait to see what you create! Have a great weekend, and happy scrapping!
